Mr. Faizan Mansoor earned his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from NED University, Karachi in 1988. He then did his Masters in Nuclear Engineering from CNS (Quaid-i-Azam University) Islamabad in 1991 and joined the then Nuclear Regulatory Body of Pakistan [formerly known as Directorate of Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection (DNSRP)].
He remained involved in safety assessment and licensing of nuclear power plants from the very beginning of his career. From 1994 to 2003, he remained posted at Chashma Site as Resident Inspector and was involved in regulatory inspections and enforcement during construction, commissioning and initial operation phases including first refueling outage of Chashma Nuclear Power Plant unit-1. In December 2006, he was appointed as Director of Nuclear Safety Directorate at Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority having responsibility for licensing of nuclear installations and developing regulatory framework for nuclear safety. In August 2013, he was appointed as Director General (Chairman Secretariat) with the main responsibility to coordinate with the Government on safety, security, policy and administrative matters. Mr. Faizan has worked as Member (Executive) of PNRA from April 2016 to Feb 2021. Currently, he is the Chairman of PNRA.
At international level, Mr. Faizan Mansoor actively participated in various IAEA activities including development of IAEA documents, conducting expert missions, conducting International Regulatory Review Service (IRRS) missions, participation in conferences, meetings, and consulting services. He represented Pakistan as Member of IAEA Nuclear Safety Standards Committee, INES (International Nuclear Event Scale), meetings of Convention on Nuclear Safety and General Conferences. Currently he is Member of IAEA Commission on Safety Standards (CSS) and Advisory Group on Nuclear Security (AdSec).
